Hemingway and La Brigada Lincoln
Private Guided Tour with Mayte Embuena
1936. MADRID RESISTS
In july'36, The City stands up against the military Coup d'Etat, assaulting the stronghold of the military rebels Cuartel de la Montaña, and the city fills up with barricades.
The icy November will see the arrival of the International Brigades, that proudly march along Gran Vía towards the front at the University campus to detain the inminent entry of the fascist troops.
From that moment and until the end of the war, Madrid becomes a battle front and during three years, the people of the City will suffer daily the siege, the constant air raids and the hunger.Only the paintings of the Prado Museum will be evacuated, following the Republican Government.
